About block settings

You use blocks to structure a course in the course outline. A block is a group of topics and activity pages.

A block can be:

  • Scheduled (normally physical meeting with a location or online event).

  • Unscheduled (normally online courses).

Block settings

You can change block settings by clicking on the more icon (three dots) at the top right-hand side of a block.

In the dropdown menu you can change block type, move the position of the block in the course outline, delete the block or go to block settings.

In block settings, you'll find a bit different options for the different block types:

Block Settings options for Scheduled block:

  • Scheduled publishing - hide this block for Learners until selected time or date.

    • Manually Publish Block

    • Publish immediately after previous block was completed

    • Publish X days after previous block was completed

    • Publish at selected date

  • Send message when block is published (This will trigger the notification called Session Block Published. Make sure you have the correct settings activated)

❗️ All notifications in Block Settings has additional settings that needs to be adjusted in Course Settings under the Reminders tab. Learn more about reminders.

ℹ️ Learners are able to see if there are upcoming tasks in a block that hasn't been published yet.

Block Settings options for Unscheduled block:

  • Deadline - Set a deadline for all activities within this block

  • Send reminder (only applicable when Deadline is activated) - Send message if block is not finished (this will trigger the notifications Course block deadline is approaching/has passed reminder).

  • Scheduled publishing - hide this block for Learners until selected date.

    • Manually Publish Block

    • Publish at selected date

  • Send message when block is published (only applicable when Scheduled publishing is activated).

  • Add Location or Online Event - choose one of the two alternatives (mandatory).

  • Heading - divide your block under different headings (optional).

Unscheduled block

  • Block name - Name your block using free text (optional, automatically named Block 1, 2, 3... if not specified).

  • Heading - divide your block under different headings (optional).

  • Activity page - add content to your unscheduled block (mandatory).

Locations can be added in Learnster Studio under Settings > Locations. When you've added a location it will show in the dropdown menu when you click Add location in a scheduled block.

Add an Online Event to a scheduled block
